Viewpoint - Monte de São Miguel-o-Anjo

Maia
Description
The pilgrimage to S. Miguel-O-Anjo on the first Sunday in July takes its name from this hill. From here there is a wonderful view of the Porto city limits, the Mounts of Sameiro in Braga, Santa Justa in Valongo and the Crasto in Gondomar and the sea to the west.
It is said that the fishermen of Matosinhos worshipped S. Miguel-o-Anjo in the past to thank the Angel for its protection. Moreover, the hill was a reference point for them, a "lighthouse" that guided them as they returned from the sea.
