In this street that, from the river bank we can climb to the city centre, we can admire some of the finest examples of sixteenth-century architecture of this city. In the middle of the street there is a big house that takes the name of Solar de São Roque. This house was the residence of one of the most important scientists of the country: Dr. António Mariz Carneiro. This well reflects the importance that Vila do Conde took on the Portuguese expansion. Today, it works there a Cinematic Art Gallery and a University Residence.
