The Environmental Estate of the Quinta da Gruta is located in a romantic mansion dating from the beginning of the 20th century, that is surrounded by beautiful gardens. Following architectural renovation the house is now the focus of the whole environmental strategy for the Municipality of Maia.
The Quinta da Gruta offers entertainment, experimental activities and leisure activities. Children and grown-ups can get involved in a variety of projects that are developed here.
The Document Centre holds many books and documents concerning the environment. It will soon become a reference point for the North of Portugal. The School and Labs will be open for teachers to use in their lessons The Exhibitions and Talks will teach and discuss environmental issues and the Pedagogic Vegetable Gardens and Farm will provide the public with opportunities to take part in farm crop cycles and daily or seasonal activities such as harvesting and husking.
It will also be open for walking around and enjoying the "green" or the Farm animals.
The high potential of this area will be there for everybody to enjoy.
