The building where currently works the Paredes Music Academy had several important functions in the past. With a privileged location, next to the main road that connected Porto to Vila Real, it was the seat of Aguiar de Sousa former Justice.
In 1780, by the influenced of the mayor of Porto, Dom Francisco de Almada and Mendonça, the building was expanded, working the Town Hall in the central body, together with other services such as the Judicial Court, the Prision, the Registry, the Treasury, the Tax Office and the Post Office.
