Church and Convent of Pópulo

Braga
Description
Dated from the last years of the 16th century, D. Frei Agostinho de Jesus (1588-1609) ordered the construction of this convent. Carlos Amarante got his first opportunity to test his architectural talents, preserving mainly the interior of the Mannerist structure and respecting the Baroque façade, especially noticeable in the top of the towers; he introduced the first daring neoclassical designs.
